Lexus RX Concept Spotted On Streets

2009 Lexus RX Artist RenderingAutomakers try their hardest to keep new concepts from the public. No one is better at that than Lexus. They have managed to keep pretty quiet about their RX concept, that is until now. Spy shots have been leaked onto the net and everyone is grabbing at them to get that sneak peek.

The photos don’t give away too much, but we can definitely tell that the RX’s basic shape is still intact. The waterfall-style front grille looks like it grows a little bit, not a surprise given the RX as a whole is expected to grow about two inches in length. We’re expecting the same 3.5 liter V6 that’s in the current model, although it’ll be hooked up to a 6-speed automatic transmission, one more ratio than the current vehicle offers.

Lexus has had tremendous success since the RX was first released to the public in late 1997, so there are high expectations for the redesign. The stance is notably more aggressive on this prototype than the production versions have ever been. Just take a look at those large, aggressive wheels and that small clearance; any implications of leaving the pavement are totally out the door, not that the RX was ever a Rubicon-traversing machine.

You can expect to see this new model late next year. You can also expect to see a hybrid version that is reported to exceed 400 horsepower. The hybrid version will arrive in 2010 as a 2011 model.
