It is a historic racing battle, the battle between the Camaro and the Mustang. Something that will be continued on July 28th when they will face off at the Zwartkops Raceway. It will be Michele Lupini’s BP Ultimate Bosal 1968 Chevy Camaro vs. Ben Morgenrood’s 1966 Ford Mustang.

“Ben Morgenrood doesn’t sleep at night,” Chev rival Lupini says of the Ford driver. “Rather he plots how to make his car quicker and spends his waking hours putting those dreams into practice and the previous race saw us still running reliably but some two seconds off the pace…” But with Lupini out of town for the last race Willie Hepburn drove the BP Bosal Camaro and the team found the pace it needed to close the gap to the Ford.

“We have a bit more work to do and with a fresh set of Bridgestone rubber, we hope we’ll be up to challenging for that much-needed win this weekend,” Lupini warned. The battling Ford and Chev will have their work cut out though, as a newcomer to the Trans Am class will be out to prove its mettle, while some of the other regular Trans Am competitors have been working hard to narrow their gaps to the frontrunners.

Among those are the later-model Zwartkops 1970 Camaros with Peter du Toit driving the red car and possibly Willie Hepburn pedaling the white machine this time, along with another similar newly restored ’70 Camaro joining the hunt, too. The thundering Trans Am races should prove most exciting with the Camaro expected to be on the Mustang’s pace, but that is just one highlight of up a comprehensive and exciting Zwartkops Inland race meeting that includes other top historic racing classes, as well as several other most interesting contemporary racing classes starting at 10.30am on Saturday.
