2008 Mini Cooper
Mini has finally decided to give their Cooper a makeover. The 2008 model will be revealed to the public this month at the Paris Motor Show. We can expect to see the new models in dealerships early in the Spring of 2008. The makeover won’t be too extensive. They have decided to stay true to the design of the vehicle and will just be improving upon the features.
The front-end has been extended 2.4 inches to allow for a new powertrain family and to meet pedestrian safety goals. A revised grille and more aggressive front fascia modernize the appearance. A new family of four-cylinder engines has been jointly developed with Peugeot-Citroen, and will replace the older powerplants that were co-engineered with Chrysler. The most powerful unit will be a turbocharged 1.6-liter direct-injection unit, said to develop around 175 horsepower and reserved for the Cooper S.
The interior is more thoroughly revised, though it remains true to the previous iteration’s distinctive layout. The center speedometer is larger, and the gauge face now accommodates more functions. Center-stack controls have been updated, though the toggle-switch array is still used. A Lights Package provides a series of ambient illumination.
