2008 Honda S2000
Honda has high hopes for the 2008 model year with their new S2000 roadster Club Racer(’CR’). Honda is confident that this will be a best seller or else they wouldn’t make less than 2,000 of these vehicles.
It is powered by the same 237-hp 2.2-liter, 16-valve VTEC four-cylinder engine in the standard S2000. The two-seater S2000 CR will come with a removable hardtop. In pursuit of lower lap times and better street cred, Honda ditched the base S2000’s folding top, air-conditioning, and stereo.
In their place, you get the headrest fairing, a welded-in rear body brace, a boy-racer-ish body kit aimed at reducing lift, stiffer springs and dampers, quicker-ratio steering, and assorted CR-specific interior bits. Engine and driveline specifications mirror those of the base S2000, although the CR does get slightly wider rear tires and stickier Bridgestone rubber.
The suspension is “significantly stiffer” than that of the standard S2000 and includes thicker anti-roll bars. The steering ratio is also quicker. All of this adds up to sharper handling, which is hard to fathom given how taut and precise the base Honda S2000 already is.
The S2000 is a pure race car and gives you the full effect of it. Not only have they lightened the vehicle and put in the right engine components, but they have also taken away the leather seats and put in the suede material(the kind used in race cars). This is used to keep drivers from sliding around when taking sharp turns.
